About the spot

Cova do Vapor lies where the Tagus estuary meets the Atlantic. Tides and river-mouth currents strongly influence the area, with waves on the exposed side. Calmer water in a sheltered corner does not establish a safe beginner venue.

Kite use is described, but this area is for experienced riders with local knowledge. Breakwaters, changing sand and proximity to shipping constrain the usable sections. Wind angle, tide and a safe return must work together; a suitable wind speed alone is insufficient.
