About the spot

Heiligendamm offers Baltic riding with a short carry across the dyke. Westerly and northeasterly winds can run along the shore, with waves building in stronger wind. A local school teaches windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Closely spaced groynes restrict launching and riding. Accurate starts and a controlled return are essential. Beginners should use supervised instruction; the presence of lessons does not make rough surf suitable for independent novices.
