About the spot

The El Portil kite area lies around the Río Piedras estuary and the Flecha del Rompido sand spit. Water inside the estuary can be calmer than the surf on the seaward side. A local watersports centre uses the area for kite lessons.

Tides substantially alter depth, currents and usable sand. Navigation channels and the open river mouth require particular care; shallow water is not necessarily current-free. This entry covers the estuary, not the protected freshwater lagoon inland. Suitable wind directions need checking for the specific launch.

Access & local notes

Confirm the launch and any boat transfer with Flecha Extreme. Use permitted areas and stay clear of navigation channels, dunes and bird habitat.
