About the spot

San Juan de Nieva is the eastern section of the long Salinas–El Espartal beach, west of the Avilés estuary. Westerly to northwesterly winds are among the locally documented options. The exposed coast mainly interests riders with surf experience.

Swell, currents and tides can complicate returning. A broad low-tide beach does not guarantee sufficient exit space later. Beginners need small conditions and supervision. The harbour entrance is a separate hazard and traffic area, not a fallback drift destination.
