About the spot

O Vao is the exposed beach west of Vigo, used for kiting in westerly to northwesterly winds. Unlike the inner-estuary spots, Atlantic swell can reach this shore. It is mainly of interest outside the busy summer bathing period.

Surf, currents and reduced space at higher water demand dependable control. Experienced riders can find wave conditions; beginners should not equate a sandy beach with easy water. Shared beach use and neighbouring rocky sections need consideration when choosing a launch.

Access & local notes

Check seasonal permission and the current kite area locally. Watch for swimmers and rocks; this is not O Bao on A Illa de Arousa.
