About the spot

Espinho is a wave spot along an urban beach divided by breakwaters. Northerly wind is a typical favourable condition, while surf also depends on Atlantic swell. The individual beach sections offer different amounts of launch and recovery space.

Breakwaters and rocks remain hazards at higher water levels. Independent riding requires reliable upwind ability, surf experience and substantial clearance from structures. Swimming use can sharply reduce the available area. Espinho should therefore not be treated as a general beginner spot.

Access & local notes

Choose a permitted section with ample space between breakwaters. Recheck the exit as the tide rises; do not launch amid crowded swimming areas.
