About the spot
Collignon sits at the eastern edge of Cherbourg's roadstead. A breakwater separates more sheltered water from the open outside. CNPS favours northeast for the inner area, while northwest is mainly used outside. Usable depth remains tidal.
Outside, waves and almost onshore northeast wind can develop. Rocks towards Le Becquet, current near the breakwater and fixed structures require good awareness. Westerly airflow can become increasingly sheltered. Flat water behind the wall therefore does not imply unrestricted beginner access.
Access & local notes
Distinguish the inner and outer areas according to wind and tide; give walls, rocks and routes ample clearance.
