Les Hemmes de Marck
About the spot
Les Hemmes de Marck is a very shallow coastal area between Calais and Gravelines. Sandbanks can create calmer freeriding water at suitable tidal levels. Near low tide the sea retreats a long way, so the expansive beach mainly means a lengthy walk to the water.
Northwest through northeast are the documented favourable sectors. Shallow water still requires attention to wind strength, channels and a return route that changes with the tide. Initial waterstarts need instruction; this exposed coast offers no dependable recovery from offshore wind.
Access & local notes
Plan around suitable water depth; do not take shortcuts through channels or protected areas.
