About the spot

At lower water, Houlgate develops tidal sand pools that can provide calmer practice water in suitable sea winds. Waves appear farther out and as the tide rises. The Vaches Noires cliffs affect airflow along the eastern side.

Summer brings designated rigging and transit zones. Large high tides can leave insufficient beach for safe launching. Kite Paradise provides lessons; boat-supported teaching in land wind is distinct from independent beach riding. Beginners need a suitable tide as well as a suitable wind forecast.
