Wissant

About the spot

Wissant lies between Cap Gris-Nez and Cap Blanc-Nez and is a major northern French wave spot. Southwest and northeast produce different combinations of wind and tidal current. Strong wind can turn an ordinary freeride session into demanding surf riding.

Tides change the sandbanks and usable beach width. A designated summer kite zone separates riders from swimming areas and access corridors. Schools select teaching conditions around the wind and tide. Independent riders need dependable upwind ability and a controlled return through moving water.

Use the signed summer zone; assess wind on the beach and allow for the tide at launch and landing.
