About the spot

Elafonisi is at Crete's southwestern tip, in a sensitive natural area with shallow lagoon sections and more open sea. The local kite operator describes supervised learning in a shallower section under suitable northwesterly wind. Limited depth also leaves little clearance for falls, jumps or foils.

Tourist swimming areas are not blanket kite territory. Confirm the currently usable watersports section and access with the operator before each session, and respect habitat markings, dunes and vegetation. Strong or unsuitable wind may restrict activity. This is distinct from Elafonisos near the Peloponnese.
