About the spot

Lo Stagnone around Birgi Vecchi is Sicily's major flat-water area. Isola Lunga shelters the lagoon from open-sea surf. Extensive shallows and numerous schools support supervised beginners and freestyle riding.

Limited depth is also a constraint: foils and jumping require adequate water. Mud, isolated obstacles and occupied teaching areas need attention. Use an agreed school or club launch. This protected lagoon contains islands, boat routes and archaeological areas; unrestricted access throughout every sector must not be assumed.
