About the spot

Loissin lies on the southern shore of Greifswalder Bodden, combining extensive shallow water with a watersports centre directly at the campsite. It is particularly suited to supervised kite lessons, consolidating basic riding skills and relaxed freeride sessions. This profile covers the campsite beach; the nearby launches at Waldkante, Gahlkow and Ludwigsburg have their own access arrangements and wind conditions.

The extensive standing-depth area is the main attraction. In suitable conditions it helps with practising and retrieving a board. However, depth varies across the area: neither a fixed standing depth nor a guaranteed distance to deep water can be stated reliably. Check the actual depth before jumping or foiling. The predominantly soft bottom also contains shells, so neoprene footwear is advisable.

The well-supported wind sector runs from west through northwest and north to northeast. Boardway also lists easterly wind, whereas the tourism authority gives a narrower range. For easterly directions, ask the station to assess the specific launch. Southerly directions are not generally recommended for this beach. Its position on the southern shore means that a south wind in particular has an offshore component.

The water is often relatively flat but becomes choppier as the wind increases. In stronger wind, small waves can form at the sandbank outside the standing-depth area. Loissin is primarily a flat-water and freeride venue; perfectly smooth water should not be expected in every weather situation.

Arrive at the campsite at Am Strandweg 1. The kitesafe.de school is located at the western end of the site. Day visitors should ask reception about access, parking and the applicable day ticket. Obtain a station briefing before setting up: the current launch and landing areas, teaching zones and other beach users determine how to use the shore. Open water does not automatically mean there is enough space to lay out kite lines.

Lessons, equipment rental and supervised riding are available locally. Beginners should use tuition; progressing riders can book a supervised session. Independent riders should be able to launch and land safely, stay upwind and perform a self-rescue. A school being present does not replace planning your own return to shore.

Respect the waterbirds of Greifswalder Bodden. Give bird gatherings a wide berth, particularly in autumn and winter. The regional agreement designates Ludwigsburger Haken as an exclusion area; it must not be treated as an unrestricted extension of this spot. Check local notices and the conservation map before making longer runs along the coast.

Loissin is also convenient for longer stays, with camping, sanitary facilities, watersports services and a beach bar close together. The campsite lists April to October as its season; the watersports station operates on request outside its regular May-to-September season. Check opening, supervision and access before travelling, especially outside the main season.
