Kijkduin offers North Sea waves over shifting sandbanks. The tide can create temporary sheltered troughs, while surf and currents dominate farther out. Groynes may be difficult to see when covered by higher water.

The venue suits independent riders experienced in waves and rip currents. A calm-looking section is not a dependable beginner lagoon. Swimmers and other beach users further limit launching space, so retain a clear landing option as the tide and beach width change.
