About the spot

Makkum's shallow bay supports freeriding and supervised learning during its October–April kite season. Beyond the bay the IJsselmeer becomes substantially deeper, and cold water or wind chop can complicate a return.

Use the northwestern launch area. Westerly winds require launching from the water rather than the beach. Protected areas and the shipping route towards Kornwerderzand lie to the north. An absence of boundary buoys should never be interpreted as unrestricted access to the entire lake.
