About the spot
Ofir here means the exposed Atlantic beach, rather than the sheltered Cávado area behind the spit. Kitesurfing use is documented, and the beach mainly suits riders with wave experience. Surf, beach currents and shifting sandbanks affect the usable area.
The “Cavalos de Fão” rocks, exposed at low water, deserve particular attention. Higher water conceals hazards rather than removing them. Riders seeking flat water or supervised learning should investigate the separate Esposende river spot and its teaching arrangements.
Access & local notes
Identify rocks, breakwaters and an exit before rigging. Launch only in a currently permitted, clear beach section; avoid the spot when the surf is large.
