About the spot

Ribeira das Ilhas is a demanding reef break and heavily used surf spot near Ericeira. Kite use is documented, but the relatively small beach and rocks along its sides leave little room for launching errors or drift.

Only very experienced wave kiters with local knowledge and suitable wind should consider it. Reef, surf and a busy surf line-up can rule out a session entirely. This entry is therefore not a general kite recommendation or teaching venue; a sufficiently large, clear launch must actually be available.
